Bloody Builders

In common with most other people in Cambridge I am having real difficulty breathing right now (apparently due to the thunderstorms/pollen/ozone/take your pick) and as a result I didn't get to sleep until after 2am last night. Then at 8:25am this morning, drrrrrriiiiiiillllllllll ddddddddddddrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiillllll bang bang bang bang bang ddddddddddrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiilllllllllll
from next door. SIGH.

They're having an extension built at the moment and it is anchored into the wall right by our bedroom window so we get the worst of the noise. I really think 8:25 in the morning is an anti-social time to start noisy stuff like that, but maybe I'm just biassed :-(

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks it's anti-social. I didn't mind so much when they were just talking and doing other less noisy stuff outside the window because I could sleep through that, but that drilling really was OTT. The problem is that I know our normal hours are shifted a bit with respect to everyone else's, so I'm never sure what's an OK time to start doing noisy stuff in the morning / continue doing noisy stuff in the evenings :-/

I think a note through the neighbour's door would be nice if you are having noisy work done. As for whether it HAS to be done that early, IME it is impossible to get builders (and roofers, plumbers, electricians etc) to start when *you* want as opposed to when *they* want, and they always seem to want to start early. I'd much prefer it if they could work 10-7 instead of 8-5 but it just doesn't ever seem to be possible.
